Innovation is a Core Value
"We cannot be driven by the need. We have to be driven by what we can do with excellence." This is a saying Grant Scarborough repeats almost daily at MercyMed in Columbus. The need is great, and it will always outpace us. But what can we do with excellence for those who trust us with their care? How can we be creative to serve those around us? It requires an innovative spirit, and a willingness to dream. Hear reflections on his career of constant innovation. It is a story complete with challenges and setbacks, as well as many milestones to celebrate. Grant is a builder and a dreamer, and he wants to encourage you to persevere as you serve your communities, and to dream along with him for the future!

Change Without Chaos: How Nonprofit Leaders Can Build Trust & Morale
Conference II (Pool Level)
Change is inevitable, but how nonprofit leaders guide their teams through transformation determines whether it strengthens or weakens workplace culture. Too often, resistance to change is seen as negativity, when it's really a sign that employees care. In this session, attendees will explore why staff morale drops, common leadership mistakes that erode trust, and how to lead change in a way that builds long-term resilience.

Attendees will learn a trust-building model for navigating change, examine real-world case studies of nonprofits that maintained staff engagement during major transitions, and participate in a short self-reflection exercise to assess their own leadership approach to change. By the end of the session, participants will leave with clear, actionable strategies to lead with transparency, involve staff early, and create a culture where change is readily embraced - not feared.

I Have Health Insurance? No Way - I Don't Remember Enrolling!
Conference III, IV, V (Pool Level)
Free and charitable clinics are finding that some of their patients have been enrolled in health insurance without their knowledge. This presentation will discuss health insurance enrollment requirements to access Affordable Care Act health plans, the transition to Georgia's Health Insurance Exchange (Georgia Access), and how to reconcile health plan enrollments that a patient was not previously aware of and may not want.

How We Effectively Engage Our Clinic Board in Philanthropy
If you are like most free and charitable clinics, you probably struggle to get your board to help with the fundraising process. You might be leaving easy philanthropic revenue on the table every month by neglecting to put an ongoing plan in place to train and empower your board to help identify prospects, make connections, tell your story, and solicit gifts. Your board is not broken, they just need the right structure and expectations to become a powerful tool for your bottom line. In this session, we will walk step by step through how to engage your board members in a way that feels authentic, doable, and aligned with your mission. We will explore proven strategies for setting clear fundraising expectations, offering meaningful training, and creating systems of accountability that work. You’ll leave with a practical, customizable framework to immediately implement with your board—regardless of their fundraising experience. Whether you’re working with a brand-new board or a seasoned one that needs refreshing, this session will help turn your board from passive participants into active ambassadors and champions of your development goals.
